Thursday was a rest day because the summit attempt was going to be made in the early hours of Friday morning. The weather over the last few days was pretty much spot on and Friday was looking good too. One of the things that we had debated during the day was whether we were going to make the attempt on the summit from the barrels by foot or to use a Sno-Cat to take us up to Pastukhova rocks. We opted for the latter, although we had to pay around €60 for the privilege. The reasoning is simple. We’d already done a walk to Pastukohva rocks, it was a standard trek, no skills required and more importantly, we would have used energy that was put to better use elsewhere.
